Today’s Encouragement is, “But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless-like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.” Ecclesiastes 2:11 NLT
As he reflected on his life and recounted all his hard work, his efforts to build a comfortable, happy life, we find a recurring theme: “I did…” this and that.
He previously summarized his life’s efforts – “I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women, and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire!” Ecclesiastes 2:8 NLT. (notice the “I”)
He accumulated everything he wanted, but when he really thought about his life, he realized, “It was meaningless; nothing was worthwhile!”
My friends, we all will leave it all behind when we exit this world and relocate to our eternal home. Every possession, accomplishment, and even relationships with friends and family are ultimately meaningless!
But wait! This truth is not as dark and depressing as it may first appear. Instead, it can be very liberating!
Why? Because our earthly accomplishments and accumulations do not define us! Little or much, these cannot satisfy the human soul. Only the peace of God, through faith in Christ, can satisfy the soul.
Paul countered the self-centered accumulation of possessions with, “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have… with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-12b, 13 NLT
Thank You, Lord, that we can be content through Christ, with little or much. Contentment is available to anyone through faith in Jesus!
