Things We Cannot See

Today’s Encouragement is, “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NLT

Things We Cannot See –

We do have troubles in this life! Some of us have far more than others! God’s Word clearly does not deny this, and Jesus even acknowledges it. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Both these passages acknowledge the reality of troubles, trials, pains, and sorrows and yet they also contain a very critical, additional Truth we need to always bear in mind!  There is an implied ‘but’ and a ‘yet’ in both verses.

But – our troubles and pain will not last very long (v 17). And these sufferings have a purpose!  “Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!” (v 17)

This Truth is the opposite of our human reasoning! (Is God limited to our human reason? Is He limited in any way?)

Thank You, Father, for giving us this Truth. We confess it is difficult to accept it.  But we choose to trust Your Word and pray for Your help to believe. Help us to “fix our gaze on things that we cannot see.”
