Today’s Encouragement is, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
God Has Given –
Love might get a bit lost in there between power and self-discipline, but it’s there!
These are aspects, results, and evidence of God’s Spirit residing, dwelling, alive, and living, within us! The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to us, and the nature, the essence, even the personality of His Spirit is power, love, and self-discipline, but not fear or timidity.
We’re focused on Love, which is the very nature of God (1 John 4:13) so it inevitably is the nature of His Holy Spirit. This Holy Spirit lives within us as believers. So, it is obvious that this Love, which is inherent in the Holy Spirit, resides within us!
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35
The Spirit is ready and perfectly capable of empowering us to be all that God created us to be. We, however, have the God-given right of choice! We can choose to run our own lives, or to allow God, through His Spirit, to take control, lead, and direct us. And the result of every Spirit-led life… is Love.
One more thought, notice the tense of the language… “God has given” Already! We need not plead with God for His gift; it is already given!
Thank You, Father, for the gift of Your Spirit, which opens the door for us to Your Love, power, and self-discipline. Help us to release our control to Your Holy Spirit and so enjoy the new and abundant Life You have offered us!
