Today’s Encouragement is, “He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.” Romans 8:4 NLT
Follow The Spirit –
As believers, we are followers of Christ. So, what does it mean to follow?
Jesus asked Peter and Andrew, James and John, all fishermen, to follow Him; they left their families, homes, boats, nets, and even their greatest catch to follow Him! Matthew was also called to follow, and he left behind his workplace, money, home, job, and wealth.
We follow people on social media, follow the careers of our favorite people, follow the business principles of the successful, and we even follow the recipe for the meal we prepare.
So, it would be rather self-deceptive to say we don’t follow anyone or anything. Of course, we do nothing perfectly; we fail, we fall into following our sinful nature at times, but as believers, we can always turn away from that sinful nature and choose to follow Him. We can always return to Him!
Yet my friend, there is only One who deserves to be followed. Only One who can be fully trusted. Only One who will never let us down, fail us, who will never leave us, or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)
Father, help us to continue to follow Your Spirit, as Jesus did, saying no to our flesh. And to recognize that Jesus has fully satisfied Your just requirements for us! Because we choose to follow Jesus.
