Today’s Encouragement is, “But the Lord said to her, ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:41-42 NLT
Only One Thing –
I read the other day that a pastor said, we should be a combination of Mary, the devoted one, and Martha, the busy, industrious servant. Sounds reasonable, right? We think, “We can’t spend all our efforts in ‘just’ sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to His teaching. Surely that isn’t enough! We’ve got to do something, make it happen, work, be productive!”
Sorry, but that isn’t what Jesus said. His words, His Wisdom, His way is infinitely better, higher than our way! (Isaiah 55:8-9)
And He said Mary has discovered the “Only One Thing” that is worth being concerned about.
It is Jesus. Mary chose Him, who He was, what He said, did, and taught us. That is the Only One Thing! Being in His Presence is far better than frantically serving Him!
Jesus is the Only One Thing we need to be concerned about! Putting Him first, accepting Him, listening to Him, following Him, worshipping Him … He is the Only One!
Thank You, Father, for the clarity of Your Word. That belief in Jesus as Your Son is the Only One Thing that we need to be concerned with. Thank You for the gift of Faith in Jesus!
