Today’s Encouragement is, “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20:30-31 ESV
Life In His Name –
We have the written accounts of four people. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, of the life, words, and acts of Jesus Christ. Another 23 books are provided in the New Testament, further revealing Jesus’ life, deeds, and truth, as well as those of his early disciples.
It’s a very thorough, comprehensive written record! Yet it doesn’t contain everything He said or did. No biography, autobiography, or even a series of such books can contain everything! At best, they provide a reasonably accurate account of one’s life. He is all that is revealed in His New Testament… and more!
He is accurately described, revealed, and portrayed in the Bible! But He said other things, did other things which were not written for us. But! What was written, what we have been given, is a great treasure!
And it is written for this purpose: 1) so that we can believe in Jesus, God’s Son, 2) believe that He is the Christ (The Savior), and 3) so we can have Life in His Name!
We have Life in the Name of Jesus! And it is Eternal Life – Overcoming, Overflowing, Abundant Life!
Lord Jesus, thank you for the Bible, the written record of Your life, words, and deeds! Help us to absorb and believe what You have given us! And to recognize and understand that – Your Name is Life!
