If You Return

Today’s Encouragement is, “For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.” 2 Chronicles 30:9b ESV

If You Return –

It is clear throughout the entire Bible that each person is able to turn (or return) to God in faith and that God will accept them in grace and mercy. No matter what we’ve done, the number of years we’ve fought against Him, or how many times we have turned away from Him.  He is gracious and merciful.

Like the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) who returned to his father, we can, at any time, turn our face to Him, turning away from the world, ourselves, and our own will, away from our sinful lives… and “look to” Him.  Walking, moving, thinking, and turning toward Him.  This is called repentance.  Turning away from self, sin, worries, fears, doubts, the world and its people, problems, philosophies, and failures; and turning in simple, humble, and perhaps desperate faith, to God.

And this is a constant choice.  It’s never too late (just ask this thief in Luke 23:40)! But also daily, (Jesus told us to pray for our daily bread!) hourly, minute by minute, and to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

We need not assume a physical position or clasp our hands and close our eyes. (This isn’t a performance!) We simply can pray, even in the midst of our own folly, “God, I look to you!  Help me!”

Thank You, our kind, understanding, and loving Father, for always allowing us to turn to You and for always accepting us!

God, I Look To You
