The Very Character –
It’s essential to recognize that the Son of God, Jesus, is the perfect image of God. He is the perfect portrayal, example, and the very character of God the Father.
We might sometimes mistakenly assume that they have different roles or natures, that God is aloof, angry, and judgmental, just waiting to catch us in some sin and punish us! And that Jesus is our friend who saves us. Almost the “good cop, bad cop” routine!
But “God Is Love” (1 John 4:8) and Jesus is His reflection for us, God in human form so that we can see and grasp an understanding (limited by our human capacity) of God’s character, His nature, His heart!
Jesus spoke the hard truth to those who rejected Him, all the religious leaders who chose their own power and rules over His grace and mercy. But to those who recognized Him as Lord, as God’s Son, He always extended grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love.
“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9)
“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.” (John 5:19)
God’s character, which Jesus exemplifies perfectly, is – Love!
