Believe and Obey

Today’s Encouragement is, “Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.” Romans 1:5 NLT

Believe and obey –

These are two components of Faith – Belief and Obedience. Belief is first, and it is how we are saved (Ephesians 2:8). It is the essential first step into His Salvation, and this salvation is assured! Then comes Obedience. We recoil at the word, “No one is gonna tell me what to do!” And certainly, we are not to obey, to follow devotedly, any human being, only Jesus.

Yet that word – Obey – is prevalent throughout the Bible! “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” James 1:22 NLT

We might make the excuse, “We can’t really obey because, well, nobody’s perfect!” We aren’t! But does this mean we don’t need to try at all to obey? It’s much clearer and simpler than many think. We are not bound to obey 10 or 1000 commands, but only 2!

“[Jesus said] And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 NLT

Father, please help us to obey Your commandments to Love.  Help us to support and verify our Faith in You by obeying You, by loving You, and those around us. And so – to bring Glory to Your Name.

Trust and Obey
