Today’s Encouragement is, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 ESV
Grace and Truth –
Of all the aspects of Jesus, John points out that Jesus was full of Grace and Truth. He could have rightly mentioned miraculous power, His wisdom beyond any human understanding, or any other characteristics of Jesus.
But Grace and Truth are the essential qualities of Jesus. Grace means unmerited and undeserved favor. And by claiming to be the Truth, Jesus boldly set himself apart from all other teachers, spiritual guides, and any human being.
Now John said Jesus was – full of – grace and truth. Is it possible that- nothing was lacking and there was no room (or need) for anything else.
God’s Grace is offered freely to all who believe and trust in Jesus. Grace is God’s complete forgiveness and mercy, but even more! In addition, Grace adds the smile of God – His favor! We are His favorites! (Yes, it sounds arrogant, but how else can you explain His amazing Grace?)
God’s Grace, coupled with Truth, adds yet another aspect of Jesus. He is the only Son of God, perfect in every way, and He dwelt among us, full of Grace and Truth. So that today, as Christ lives within us and all who follow Him, we too are filled with His Grace and Truth. Is it possible?
God our Father, help us to listen to Your Word, to learn, and to believe what You have said. Give us spiritual wisdom and understanding to grasp how great Your Love is.
Grace Upon Grace
