Today’s Encouragement is, “Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.” Psalm 130:3-4 NLT
If You Kept –
Years ago, we were talking to a friend who shared several grievances they had towards us. It was very uncomfortable and, in hindsight, rather sad. We recognized that while these issues were obviously the result of our shortcomings, mistakes, and generally human behavior, this person was essentially ‘keeping a record of our sins’. These were things we could not undo or erase, and the harm done to our relationship is already final. Additionally, and very importantly, this record of our sins continues to hurt this friend. Each time they remember the harm done to them, they are harmed again!
Yet our God, our Perfect Loving Father, has not only erased any and all records of our sins, mistakes, even our minor insults … He has provided complete erasure of our future sins! We cannot undo our past; we cannot restore our damaged relationship with our friend. Only their forgiveness will heal our friendship. And this is exactly what God has done for us, He grants us complete forgiveness; He forgets our sin. (Heb 8:12)
And we have a restored, proper, and grace-filled relationship with Him because of His forgiveness… bought by Jesus, so that we can be close to, in relationship with, our loving Father God!
Thank You, Jesus, for purchasing our forgiveness with your life; Thank You, Father, that you do not keep any record of our sins!
