Your Servant Is Listening

Today’s Encouragement is, “So he said to Samuel, ‘Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, LORD, your servant is listening.'” 1 Samuel 3:9 NLT

Your Servant Is Listening –

The last three days, we’ve considered ways that God might choose to speak to us.  They are through the written word that we call the Bible, through other people, and through His Holy Spirit.  Of course, He can use anything and often does! He can ‘speak to us’ through nature, our life experiences, tragedy, illness, joy, or sorrow. Remember He is unlimited, ultimately creative, omnipotent, and can communicate with His dearly loved people (that’s us!) in any manner He chooses!

We might experience Him ‘speaking’ through nature, a beautiful sunset, ever-changing, always unique and awe-inspiring, finding a lost item, or a smile or kind word from a stranger…

The critical issue is: Are we listening?  Do we have “ears to hear?”  In today’s verse, Samuel heard the Lord’s voice calling him, but it was then necessary for him to listen, to understand, to remember, and be changed. (We are always changed by hearing God!)

Jesus often said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” Matthew 11:15

“Ears to hear” is not referring to our physical, audiological ability, but relates to our spiritual sense of hearing, listening, and understanding Him.

Are we seeking to hear Him?  And then, when He speaks, are we listening?

Speak, Lord, and give us “ears to hear” and understand. Thank You for speaking only in Truth and Love to Your chosen, selected, loved, and adopted children.  We need to hear You.
