Today’s Encouragement is, “When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ ‘Be quiet!’ many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’” Mark 10:47-48 NLT
Shouted Louder –
Bartimaeus was rather shameless, wouldn’t you say? The people around him thought so; they considered him rude, disruptive, and even disrespectful. They yelled at him to shut up! “But he only shouted louder!”
Did Jesus rebuke him for being so demanding, impatient, or so selfish? Did he call down the people for being so heartless and uncaring about this poor blind man? Did anyone get scolded for this disruptive shouting match? Nope! In fact, Jesus doesn’t even mention it!
Jesus heard him and healed him.
It wasn’t the volume of the conversation, nor the pleas of others; it was only one man’s faith, desperate and unashamed, crying out for mercy, that brought about healing.
Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Mark 10:52a NLT
More than anything, this man desperately wanted healing. And in this desperation, he cried out, shouted out, “Jesus, have mercy on me!”
And. Jesus. Did.
Thank You, our dear Father, for Your compassion, mercy, and love for us. We are all desperate, blind, weak, lame, and lost. We cry out with all of our strength… “Lord Jesus, Have Mercy!” Strengthen our faith as we continue to ask, in faith, for our every need, including Your healing of our lives, bodies, minds, and spirits.
Cry Out To Jesus
