Who Do You Say I Am?

Today’s Encouragement is, “Then he asked them, ‘But who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.’” Matthew 16:15-17 NLT

We each must answer Jesus’ essential question, “Who do you say that I am?”

This is the essential question of faith for Christians:  What do you say, believe, think about Jesus?  Who is He?

CS Lewis famously stated that Jesus was either a Liar, a Lunatic, or the Lord.

There really aren’t any other options.  He clearly stated:

“I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6)

“I am the door.” (John 10:9)

“I and the father are one.” (John 10:30)

These are not the statements of a ‘great teacher’ or even ‘the greatest prophet’ and certainly ‘the greatest man who ever lived’ could never make such claims.  Only the Lord could.  Only God Himself in human flesh could.

The entire Bible reveals Jesus. We come to know Jesus through what the Bible teaches, what preachers preach, and what we read. Our spirits confirm His Truth, and we decide, drawn by God’s Spirit, to believe, accept, and follow Him.

He is the question. He is the answer.
