Come To Me –
His message is perfectly clear, but we look to many other people, things, ideas, options… before realizing that only He can give us rest and satisfy our soul.
Why do we do this? We look to entertainment, possessions, chemicals, medications, sinful pleasures, religion, other people, or any number of different forms of relief for our weary bodies and troubled minds. These promise immediate relief and rest but ultimately fail to deliver.
Yet, Jesus is the Answer. Simple and True. Strong and Kind. He waits for us to come to Him. He is available. He is Able. He is more than Adequate. He never lies. He promises that when we come to Him, “I will give you rest.”
How? Just ask, pray, read His words (John’s gospel), spend time waiting quietly for Him, be available, silence the din of life around you, TV, social media, if only for a few moments, and focus on Him, His Love for you, His promises, the eternal life He brings to all who believe in Him. Seek Him. “For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:10
Father God, thank you for Jesus, who eternally offers us rest from the turmoil and chaos to the monotony and drudgery of this earthly existence. Help us to come to Jesus, often and consistently, and there receive the rest only He can give.
