Today’s Encouragement is, “He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, ‘My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.’” Matthew 26:39 NLT
Your will, not mine –
We all inherently and passionately desire and strive for our way! We are born as selfish, grasping, self-willed creatures clawing our way toward whatever our hearts desire. This is our self-will in full exposure. And it’s pretty hideous!
Conversely, a life of Faith is predicated, built upon, and upheld by the very painful and challenging – abandonment of our self-will.
Still, the world idolizes self-determination, chanting, “Be all you can be! Just Do it! Don’t let anything stop you! Pursue Your Dreams!”
But God’s ways are infinitely higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). They are not the ways of man, of this world. And rather than exalting our own will, desires, and needs, every man… (including Jesus in this passage!) can choose to lay aside ourselves, our dreams, desires, and will in favor of God’s Will, His perfect way, His good plans for us.
And my friend… He has good plans for you! “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” Jeremiah 29:11
Father, thank You for allowing us to choose Your Will, Your Ways, and Plans rather than our own. You alone know what we should do and how we should live. Give us the humility and faith to release our will and desires to You. Be Lord of our lives, Father, we ask in Jesus’ Name.
