He Rested

Today’s Encouragement is, “So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.” Genesis 2:1-2 NLT

He Rested –

Do you think God was tired on the 7th day?  Why did he rest? He certainly didn’t need to rest like we do… He wasn’t physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted like we often are.

But my friend, He was finished! His Creation, His masterpiece, the work He did, was exactly like He wanted it to be.  He made no mistakes (although I still can’t figure out why He made mosquitoes, rattlesnakes, and yellow jackets!) No mistakes! No regrets (at this point). There was no need to continue this work!

He graciously provided us with a rest period! (Leviticus 23:3) a sabbath (the Hebrew word that we translate as rest, cease, end, or stop).  This rest is advised, allowed, and provided for all, not, as a rule, we shall not break for fear of punishment, but from God’s loving wisdom!  He loves us enough to give us good counsel, His wisdom!

Each day, we work, eat, and sleep (rest). The week has a day of rest, and God provided even a year of rest for the land (crop rotation was His idea!).

Suppose we try it.  A day of rest, trusting in God’s promises, with no worries or fears, knowing He will do what we leave undone for us.

Thank You, Father, for Your perfect wisdom and this advice about regular times of Rest. Help us to trust You enough to Rest at peace, content, and in faith.

Rest
