A Representative of Jesus

Today’s Encouragement is, “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:17 NLT

A Representative of Jesus –

“Wait a minute!  I’m not good enough to be His representative!  I never signed up for that! I don’t know enough; I still have stuff I’m dealing with!  That’s for other people, good people, preachers, missionaries, and such!  I’m just an ordinary Christian trying to get by!”

As are we all, my friend!

Every sermon preached and every prayer prayed.

Every word of encouragement, quote from the Bible, invitation to be born again, each gift of time, support, or money…

“Whatever we do or say,” all comes from regular human beings (sinners) who are saved by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.

There are certainly giants of the faith, such as Billy Graham and Mother Teresa, who are famous for their dedication and effectiveness as representatives of Jesus. However, they are the exceptions. We are His representatives—just as surely as they are.

“We are Christ’s ambassadors!” (2 Corinthians 5:20)

As His representatives, we might be doing a ‘good job’ or a ‘poor job.’ But this is ‘who we are’! It’s not an option for us to represent Him sometimes and sometimes not.

Now, notice the last sentence of the verse.  “Giving thanks to Him (Jesus) through the Father.”  As we represent Him, we are giving Thanks to Him.  We aren’t ‘selling Jesus,’ He doesn’t need a promoter!  But in our every breath, word, thought, and interaction with others or alone…  We Represent Him.

Father, we are not ‘up to’ this job!  Yet, You’ve clearly told us that we reflect Him to this world.  Help us, Lord!

Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me
