Can Do Nothing

Today’s Encouragement is, “For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NLT

Can Do Nothing –

The hymn “I Need Thee Every Hour” was written by Annie S. Hawks and Robert Lowry in 1872. (here with modernized lyrics.)

The words of this prayer/hymn are a desperate plea for God to help and hear us, the cry of one who realizes, “I can do nothing without God.” A refrain follows each verse: “I need You, O I need You; Every hour I need You; O bless me now, my Savior, I come to You!”

1 I need You every hour, Most gracious Lord; No tender voice like Yours Can peace afford. (He is the only source of Peace)

2. I need You every hour; stay nearby. Temptations lose their power When You are near. (He provides us with the strength to resist temptation)

3. I need You every hour, In joy or pain; Come quickly and abide, Or life is vain. (Without God’s presence, life is useless and futile)

4. I need You every hour. Teach me Your will, And Your rich promises In me fulfill. (His will, His way, is always best for us; His promises are the greatest blessings we can have)

5. I need You every hour, Most Holy One; O make me Yours indeed, O blessed Son! (When we accept Jesus as Savior, believe in Him, trust Him, then we are His, His brothers and sisters, adopted children of God)

Please don’t skip this beautiful video, and as you sing along, let this prayer be yours, your heart crying out to God for His presence, power, and promises in your own life.  Because without Him, we can do nothing!

Thank You, Father, that You are our ever-present help! (Psalm 46:1)
