The Light Shines

Today’s Encouragement is, “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:4-5 (ESV)

The Light Shines – 

In this monumental introduction to the book written by John… 

We see a fantastic revelation of Jesus!

Too rich for a brief description, but notice…  Jesus existed in the beginning (v1), both with God and God. He created all things (v2). Repeated for clarity(v3) … all things!  In Him was Life (v4), and the life was the Light of men.  And today’s focus…The Light Shines.

Notice carefully, friends, the change in tense; John changed from the past tense describing Jesus as the Word… to the Present tense! Even Now…

The Light Shines – and the darkness IS defeated… 

It’s Him, not our light, but His!

Yet we bear His likeness; He even said that we are the Light of the world (Matt 5:14). This Light of Christ within us is all-powerful, my friends!  No darkness can overcome His Light within or without us; His Light overcomes all of the darkness of this world. 

We need no convincing of the darkness, within us and without us… it’s so painfully clear.  Yet His power, His Light, His Spirit dwelling within us… is invincible! No darkness shall overcome His Light!  

Encouragement, Reassurance, Confidence, Affirmation, Faith, Hope, Courage, Boldness, and Strength are all maximized when we behold Him as He is!  The Light!  Of men, Of the World, of the Universe, of all Time, of all Life!  

Father God, Your gift to us, to this world, is so vast, far beyond our full comprehension… and what we do comprehend, we often fail to live up to… yet You have grace for our frailty…  Help us to ‘live as people of light!’ (Ephesians 5:8b)
