Let Yourselves Be Wronged

Today’s Encouragement is, “Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated?” 1 Corinthians 6:7b NLT

Let Yourselves Be Cheated –

We expect justice, don’t we?  We’re God’s people; shouldn’t we be treated with respect and dignity? Shouldn’t God arrange things so that we are insulated from harm, crime, illness, and all the evil in this world?

We are often tempted to think this way, but Jesus tells us, “Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows.” (John 16:33) He told us to turn the other cheek when we are insulted or abused. (Matthew 5:39)

Please note He did not instruct us to willingly stay in abusive relationships, submitting to a pattern of systemic abuse. Instead, He spoke of the reality of occasional struggles and injustice that are the inevitable troubles for everyone in this life.

But we want justice!  Someone has to stand up against the wrong!  And, of course, this is true!  Yet, my friend, we are wise to, ‘pick our battles!’  Some battles aren’t worth it. Some will cost us too much!

Finally, notice who is in control of this. “Let yourselves be cheated!” You are! You decide to allow the wrong to occur unchallenged!  Not the other person!

A few more verses to confirm this point:

It is to our glory to overlook an offense. (Proverbs 19:11)

It is God’s work to avenge; He will repay. (Deuteronomy 32:35)

Forgive someone who sins against you “seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18:22)

Father God, help us to look to You alone for Justice. We know that whatever harm we may suffer in this life, You can more than restore in Your way, Your time, and Your perfect Justice.

I Look to You

Selah
