Today’s Encouragement is, “Owe nothing to anyone except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.” Romans 13:8 NLT
If You Love –
A few weeks ago, I said, “I’ll see you later” to my father, John DeFoore Sr. He was an amazing man. While going through his belongings, I found a letter from one of his soldiers who told him what an inspiration he was… during WWII. I came across his journals, scrapbooks, and appointment books. I found his New Year’s resolutions for 1943! Amazing memorabilia!
In his 105 years, he was a decorated military commander, intellectual, theological student, revered pastor, respected counselor, international consultant, and more – multiple careers.
But one thing rang clear as I reflected on this amazing life.
He loved people. Genuinely and sincerely. And in return, people loved him. Deeply and respectfully.
Love encompassed his life.
Love described him.
Everything he did, he did in love.
I know we too often revere the deceased, raising them to sainthood. He was no saint, only a man. But he loved others very well and was dearly loved in return.
I believe this was only possible because he knew God loved him. “We love each other, because He loved us first.” 1 John 4:19 NLT
God’s supernatural Love flows – to us from Him and through us to others.
Thank You, Father God, for the lives of those who honor You and obey Your commandment to Love You and others. Please develop this same character within each of us. That we may also be known as “one who loves.”
