An Encouraging Word

Today’s Encouragement is, “Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.” Proverbs 12:25 NLT

An Encouraging Word-

There’s plenty in this world to worry about! Plenty of discouraging things! The economy, wars, cultural upheaval, pandemics… this list is endless!  The information about these situations is also limitless; everywhere we turn… there’s plenty to worry about! There is plenty of fuel for the consuming fire of anxiety and fear!

This devotional is intended to help you overcome the fear, worry, and anxiety of this world with the very encouraging Word of God. It describes God’s Love, protection, provision, and plans for us—what He has already given us and what He has planned for us!

What we choose to focus on is our own decision:

The dis-couraging

or The en-couraging…

My friend, we can choose to focus on His encouraging words! To Trust and Hope in Him and His Word!

Here are just a few such Encouraging Words…

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Father, we thank You for Jesus our Savior and for Your Word, which encourages us to trust and hope in Him!

I look to You

    1. I once was a champion worrier! I have overcome the worst of it, but I can’t claim complete victory. Here are a few concepts that helped me move from worry to peace.

Jesus was clear. He said, Do not worry. It has no power; it doesn’t do any good.  (Luke 12:25-26)

Worry is based on Fear. Fearing the worst, we concentrate on the worst possible outcome.  We can just as easily choose to focus on the most positive result.  It is totally our choice. Half full – half empty.

Worry is the opposite of Faith. If I trust God’s many promises to care for me, hear my prayers, protect and provide, guide me, and fulfill His good plans for me, then what does my worry signify?  It signifies – Doubt.

Doubting God leads us to a dark, lonely emptiness.  I cannot even consider that concept for a moment without spiritually, almost physically, recoiling from that darkness.

Despair is the only result of Doubt.

The answer is – Faith! Choosing to believe God, His Word, His promises, His Love, Grace, and Forgiveness.  Even if I don’t feel it (feelings are fickle), it doesn’t make logical sense (I’ve come to believe that – our human reasoning, as holy as we tend to esteem it, is merely human, far from perfect, and not the ultimate test of truth!)

      On a lighter note –

Here’s a hilarious clip from a very funny guy with a great message…

      1. Brother Rick, I am rather speechless which is probably my best reaction. STOP IT! says it all, so when I start ruminating about virtually endless problems and bad outcomes especially for our world and on and on, I will say to me: STOP IT!

The Bob Newhart sketch should be played over and over (by me).
