Today’s Encouragement is, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.”
John 6:47 NLT
I Tell You the Truth –
In the new Living Translation, “amen” means “I tell you the truth.” Repeatedly, Jesus spoke the word “amen.” When it is used at the beginning of a sentence, it is translated as “Truly,” “Verily,” “very truly,” and “I assure you” in various Biblical translations. However, when it is used at the end of a sentence, often a prayer, it means “so be it,” “yes,” and essentially, “this is truth.”
We sometimes have concepts or beliefs that are close – but inaccurate, simply not the truth.
A few examples:
Belief: If I could just get it together, clean myself up, and start going to church, then I would be acceptable to God, and He would bless me. Truth: “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8 NLT
Belief: God only loves me when I do good things. Truth: God loves us always, and His love is not dependent on our actions. (also, Romans 5:8)
Belief: God is up in heaven, a church, or somewhere ‘out there,’ and I’ve got to go to Him or find Him. Truth: God is with us, now already; the Holy Spirit lives IN us. (Romans 8:11)
There are countless more!
One of the principal purposes of this devotional is to focus on the Truth, as defined by the Bible, and contrast this truth with what we might believe.
Jesus tells us the Truth! We may not feel like it, understand it, or agree with it… but there’s no denying what it says!
Father, we thank you for giving us The Truth. Help us to believe!
