Our Refuge and Strength

Today’s Encouragement is, “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” Psalm 46:1 NLT

Our Refuge and Strength –

A refuge is a place of safety; it is secure, solid, and reliable. It is our defensive position.

A strength is ability, power, and advantage. It is our offensive weapon.

God is both. He is our hiding place, our resting place, and our source of peace. He is also our courage, our ability to fight, and our fearless and always victorious commander in every type of battle.

At times, we need to hide, to rest in Him as our fortress; sometimes, we need to stand firm and refuse to be cowered by the troubles of this life; at other times, we must attack the enemy of our souls.

And because God is with us and for us, we do these things, all things, through His strength and not our own.

So that when we rest in Him, our refuge, we can truly relax and trust in Him completely. As we stand firm in resisting evil, temptation, and fear, we know that we stand surrounded by His power, strength, and angelic armies.  And as we wield the sword of faith in battle with our enemy, we know that He has assured us of strength for the battle, weapons of warfare, and complete victory!

“So we will not fear!” Psalm 46:2a NLT

Father, we thank You for being truly all we need in every circumstance of life. Thank You for giving us the gift of complete freedom from fear, safety, and victory.

A Mighty Fortress
