Today’s Encouragement is, “They said to each other, ‘Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?’” Luke 24:32 NLT
Explained the Scriptures-
The disciples knew the scripture, memorizing each of the books of what we now call the Old Testament. This was the educational content of the schools of that day! Remember, there were no schoolbooks or student copies of the Scriptures on scrolls for students to tote back and forth each day, so scripture memory was an essential element of their educational system.
So, they knew the scripture!
But Jesus explained the scripture, and when He did… their “hearts burned within them!”
My friend, the same revelation is occurring today as we open His Word, read it, and rely on His Holy Spirit to guide, explain, reveal, and enlighten us through It.
A favorite truth is: “For the word of God is alive and powerful…” Hebrews 4:12 NLT. Today, we who believe have His written Word and His Holy Spirit to explain the Scriptures. And as we begin to understand… our hearts, too… will burn within us!
Father God, thank You for sending Your Spirit to live within us and Your written Word to inspire us. As we read, listen, and understand… Set our hearts on fire also, Lord.
