Today’s Encouragement is, “This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.” 1 John 3:19-20 NIV
Greater Than Our Hearts –
Those of us who desire to be devoted to Christ, who want to be free from sin and free to live in peace with God… are often condemned by our hearts… This is usually a sense of guilt or shame regarding a wrong we have done or thought about. We cringe at the thought and think, “Can’t believe I did that again!”
“If our hearts condemn us”. Friends, condemnation, and accusation are the work of our enemy (Revelation 12:10). And we know there is “No Condemnation for those who are in Christ” (Romans 8:1). Yet sometimes our minds, hearts, and human spirit will develop a bad habit of beating us up… reminding us of all the bad we have done. Some of it certainly is very, very bad! Yet it is this bad stuff, all of it, the worst moments of our lives, the part we cringe and hate even to remember… that Jesus has removed (Psalm 103:12), washed away (Titus 3:5), blotted out and forgotten (Isaiah 43:25).
We may remember, but God does not!
Father God, help us to forget, as You have, the terrible things we have done. Jesus died to cleanse us! And You are greater than our sin, our condemnation, our guilt.
Grace that is Greater
