Today’s Encouragement is, “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” Philippians 2:12b-13 NLT
God is working in you –
Did you catch that? God is working IN you. His work is being done in – within us! We ain’t doing it! He is! (We don’t even know what should be done – much less how to go about it!) But He does! And everything He does… He does Right!
Some might misunderstand this passage to say that we must somehow ‘finish the work of salvation’ that Jesus began because other translations read v 12 as – “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” NKJV. This seems to imply that we can add to or, somehow, finish our salvation! But that is impossible! Only God can save us! We can agree, accept, allow, and embrace His work… but it’s all His work! See v 13, “For God is working in you.” It’s His power at work that brings our salvation to reality! Not our strength, power, or work!
He is ‘working in’ us… so that we can “work out our salvation,” that is, ‘work hard to show the results’ of what He has done in and for us.
My friend, nothing and no one can add to the perfect, finished work of our salvation, which comes only through the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, Our Lord!
Lord, help us to rest in Your Finished work of salvation. You alone can help us do our part – to show the results, obey, and do what pleases You.
