Today’s Encouragement is, “Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.” Colossians 3:10 NLT
Be Renewed –
Notice the emphasis in this verse:
Put on – our action and choice.
New nature – a complete change of our very nature!
Learn to know your Creator – Grow in knowledge, understanding, and relationship with God.
And become like Him – we are all changing, one way or another… are we growing in faith and becoming more like Jesus, or are we growing away from Him and becoming more like this world? No standing still, no other options!
So how do we know? What can we do?
The preceding verses, 7-9, tell us to get rid of anger, slander, dirty language, lying, etc., and in the following verses, 12-17, put on mercy, gentleness, forgiveness, peace, and love. None of us does this perfectly, but notice that this is a choice, our decision. By making this decision daily and prayerfully asking God to Renew us daily, we become… more… like Him!
The renewal may be imperceptible each day; we may falter and fail miserably, but by choosing daily to let Him control us, guide us, renew us, we begin to inch closer to His nature and further from our sinful nature… and over time, we can look back and see that we genuinely are Renewed!
Father, this seems impossible. We know we will never become good enough, never perfect, yet You call us to move toward You and away from the world and its ways. Strengthen us, Father! Renew us daily to choose Your way and follow Jesus.
