Today’s Encouragement is, “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9 NLT
Keep On –
Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Teach us to pray.”(v1) He responded with what we call the Lord’s Prayer, rich in wisdom and spiritual truth. But He didn’t stop there! He continued to teach, describing the need for persistence by using a parable, designed to teach deep truths.
This parable (Luke 11:5-8) could be summarized as, be persistent in prayer, almost like waking up God at midnight even to borrow some food!
Then, as if He hadn’t made Himself perfectly clear… He says, “For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:10 NLT. Notice “Everyone!”
He’s still not finished driving home this critical Truth about prayer, our communication with God our Father… in v11-12, He essentially said, “Now, you’re far from perfect parents, but you wouldn’t give your kids harmful things when they ask for food… and God is far greater and kinder and wiser, He will even give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
In this brief teaching, He encompasses the nature of God as our Loving, Patient, Generous, Kind, and Understanding Father who patiently and always listens to our prayers and requests and who will give us even more than we ask!
Sometimes we can’t see it. It doesn’t come when, or in the way that we want. –
But Jesus taught us to – Keep On praying!!!
Father, we know that You always do what is best: we may not understand at the time, but You are always good.
