Today’s Encouragement is, “I tell you, her sins-and they are many-have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Luke 7:47 NLT
Only Little Love –
We might be tempted to say, “Well, I’m a pretty good person. I take care of my family. I don’t steal, cheat on my taxes, or have any big sins… I’m pretty good, don’t you think?” But this is exactly how the religious leaders of Jesus’ day thought, only more so! Jesus always exposed the truth, even when it was very uncomfortable and politically incorrect!
He revealed a spiritual truth here… The greater our understanding of our sinfulness and our need for a Savior… the greater our understanding of the depth of God’s Grace and Love… and the greater our love and gratitude for God’s Grace.
In essence, He says, “She has been forgiven much, so she loves much.”
My friend, regardless of the ‘level’ or amount of our sin… it runs deep! We’ve all sinned and fallen short (Romans 3:23). Jesus’ sermon (ref) made a crucial point: no one is perfect; we’re all sinful. Period.
“We love each other because he loved us first.” 1 John 4:19 NLT
Our love for God and for others (as Jesus stated, these are the greatest commandments) is directly linked to our comprehension of the depth of God’s forgiveness and grace that has removed our sinfulness.
Father God, open our eyes to see the depth of our sinfulness and the abundant Grace You offer to cleanse us from this sin. And cause our Love, which flows from You through us, to be full, overflowing, and deep.
Stand In Your Love
