The Measure You Use

Today’s Encouragement is, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38 ESV

The Measure You Use –

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

Our ways, our thinking, and our ‘wisdom’ are not like God’s.  His way is faith, truth, eternal, wise, loving, generous, merciful, patient, and kind.

Our ways are self-centered, fearful, limited, short-sighted, cautious, and distrustful.

Here, He speaks of generous giving and then compares the manner and amount of our giving… with the amount which we will receive. The same measure is used, but it isn’t limited.

When we give with a teaspoon, we are “measured back” with a teaspoon.  When we pour out a gallon bucket… we receive from a gallon bucket!

There’s no indication here of a one-for-one return. But the “measure,” the instrument used to give… is also the same manner by which we will receive.  “The Measure You Use…”

Father God, only You can help us have enough faith to release our death grip on our possessions. We need You to transform us into generous people, trusting that You will provide us with all that we need.

For the One
