Today’s Encouragement is, “You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)” Romans 8:9b NLT
Controlled by the Spirit –
We sometimes have concepts in our minds that are close – but not accurate.
For example: “God is up in heaven, or a church building, or somewhere ‘out there,’ and I’ve got to go to Him or find Him.” This verse says that the Truth is: God is with us, now already; His Holy Spirit lives IN us.
Further, this verse clearly proclaims… “You are controlled by the Spirit!” As we have previously discussed, we may not feel like it, we may not understand it, we might even disagree with it… but there’s no denying what God’s Word says!
It is clear that as believers, we usually know what we should and shouldn’t do; we know right from wrong, as do most people. But we also have the Spirit of God living within us… guiding, advising, leading us, and we are, according to God’s word… controlled by His Spirit!
Our human response to such a claim is often, “How is this possible? I often do things that aren’t consistent with being ‘controlled by’ God’s Spirit?” We want to try to understand logically. But God is not constrained by our human logic or thought processes, my friend. We can doubt, disagree, and deny all we want… or we can say, in faith –
Father God, I believe, help me in my unbelief. Even when I don’t understand, I choose to believe You.
