Today’s Encouragement is, “But the Lord said to her, ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:41-42 NLT
One Thing –
We are too, aren’t we? “Worried and upset over all these details.” These two ladies were real people, and they were good friends of Jesus; you might remember their brother, Lazarus! Yet these two sisters had very different priorities!
In a sense, these two ladies describe all people. We seem to be primarily concerned with “all these details” or “the one thing.”
Perhaps it’s just human nature. We’re either very focused on life’s details or we may sometimes ignore the details and only focus on our one thing.
Most successful people focus on their one thing. Tiger Woods focused on his ‘one thing,’ hitting a little white ball really well! Fishermen may obsess over their gear. Business people often obsess about their work. You get the picture.
Like Martha, we all seem to have our “details,” which often become obsessions.
But Jesus revealed the best way, describing it as the “One Thing” worthy of our concern! What was He referring to? “Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.” Luke 10:39 NLT
Mary chose – to be with the Lord, in His Presence, hearing His voice, absorbing His Words. This is the “One Thing.”
Father, help us, your fretful, worried, and obsessed people, to set aside all the details of life, now and permanently, and to choose The One Thing…. You.
