Lord, Help!

Today’s Encouragement is, “LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress. Psalm 107:6 NLT

Lord, Help! –

This verse is repeated four times in Psalm 107.  In this song, His people were wandering (v4-5), depressed, enslaved, addicted (v10-12), foolish, and starving (v 17-18), and they were about to die (v23-27).  And their single prayer, their cry for help, was only this… “Lord, Help!”

Sometimes, we might think, “I bet God gets tired of my asking Him for help, for things, for my needs.  He must be disappointed in me because I’m not better able to care for everything.  I should stop asking Him; it doesn’t seem like He will do anything anyway…”. My friend, it is entirely wrong to think God is disappointed in you, prayer doesn’t help, God won’t help, etc.

Remember that God repeatedly describes His people as sheep!  Now, when do sheep EVER fend for themselves and care for themselves? When do they stop needing a shepherd?  Never.  And it is so with us.  We NEVER grow strong, wise, or good enough to stop needing Jesus.

Furthermore, please hear this and take it to heart: God wants us to ask Him for help!  James 4:2b ESV “You do not have, because you do not ask.” We are created to need Him.

In today’s verse, the people asked… Lord, help!  And He did!  There was no rebuke, no reply of, “You should have listened to me, or you shouldn’t have done that.”

When we ask, when we cry out when we pray.  God Hears and Acts.  In His way, His time, and His perfect wisdom and Love.  Always.  We may not see or recognize it, but He always rescues.

Lord, Help!
