Today’s Encouragement is 1 Timothy 6:17 NLT Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
So unreliable –
The wisdom of biblical truth is often confirmed in experience!
We’ve all seen our comfortable and seemingly secure financial situations worsen in recent months at a frightening pace! Costs have soared, investments have drastically declined, and shelves are empty. We scream out, “What is going on!?”
We all go through seasons in this life: seasons of growth and decline, health and illness, comfort and struggles, hope and despair… it is an essential element of maturity to recognize that change is inevitable and that seasons come and go. (Eccles. 3:1)
But as believers in Christ, we have the opportunity to see from the eternal perspective by considering that “this world,” “this life,” is NOT all there is.
Our money, comforts, security, and very lives are transitory, temporary, and all are “so unreliable” as “today’s verse clarifies. And we are blessed in the sense that this concept is so clear for us all today, much more so than just a few years ago!
As we see our “security,” our trusted financial stability, begin to fail us… we now have the opportunity, if we will… to consider the biblical truth, that everything in this life… will fail us!
Our health declines, our wealth comes and goes, our friends, even our families disappoint us… and YET!… God is where we place our Trust! He alone “richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment!”
Help us, Lord, to look only to You… You alone can and do richly give us all we need.
