Today’s Encouragement is Ecclesiastes 6:9 NLT Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless – like chasing the wind.
Enjoy What You Have –
Here’s a recipe for disaster – “Want more.” Just be perpetually dissatisfied with what you have and always look around with envy at the other nice things that others have and you don’t have. That beautiful boat, that beautiful wife, that handsome, wealthy husband, the house, the complexion she has, her clothes, his cars, the intelligent, athletic kids… the list is endless. And the result of “desiring what you don’t have” is perpetual dissatisfaction!
True fulfillment and contentment come from appreciating the many blessings we already have. We can choose to look at our lives with gratitude and find joy in what we have rather than constantly yearning for what we don’t have.
The wisdom of this world says, “You will be happier, more successful, motivated to achieve, earn more, and gain wealth if you want nice things.” It seems logical… but it just ain’t so! Things do not equal happiness, contentment, or peace of mind.
Paul wrote in Philippians 4:11 (NLT) Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
Whatever I have. Enjoy what you have. When you take a minute to thank God for what you DO have… you get a glimpse of contentment.
Father God, thank You for the wisdom You’ve provided us in Your Word. Help us to listen to Your Wisdom and to live according to Your Truth.
Satisfied Mind
