This is How

Today’s Encouragement is Luke 11:2-4 NLT Jesus said, “This is how you should pray: “Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. Give us each day the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation.”

This Is How –

His disciples asked, and He taught them this prayer… with this introduction… “This is how you should pray.”

Father – We approach God as one of His family and acknowledge Him as the Head, Leader, Provider, and Strength but also our completely perfect Dad…

Your Name -This further acknowledges His power and glory, that His Name is Holy and will be respected, and that He is God.

Your kingdom come – as His people we long for Him to set everything right, for His Kingdom, His rule, authority, power, His justice to rule everything that exists.  Because He is Good.

Give us – just enough for the day’s needs so that we remain dependent upon You for everything, even our daily food… one day at a time.

Forgive us – we all sin and need His forgiveness, and this prayer qualifies this forgiveness… forgive us in the same way we have forgiven others who have hurt us.   It seems pretty clear that we are to forgive others – so that – God will forgive us.

A hard truth!

Don’t let us yield—we choose to yield or not yield to temptation. We are all tempted, but it’s the yielding, the giving into temptation, that is so very destructive. The Bible tells us that even Jesus was tempted in every way… but didn’t sin (Hebrews 4:15); He didn’t yield!

Thank You, Jesus, for teaching us to Pray.  Thank You, Father, for always hearing us.
