Forgetting The Past

Today’s Encouragement is Philippians 3:13b NLT But I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.

Forgetting the past –

We can get very tied down to the past, can’t we? A painful experience, a loss, a trauma, or even a better life in previous years… If we allow it, the past has the power to dominate our present and future. We can be so focused on what’s happening right now that we don’t see the blessings that await us!

Looking back, or even at our current circumstances, causes us to stumble.

It’s good to remember lessons learned from our past experiences, of course, but dwelling on, living in, the past, whether it’s good memories or painful ones, leads to failure today.

God even models this for us, my friends. In Hebrews 10:17 NLT, He says, “I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.” God forgets our sins! So, we are free! Free from the past, all sins, and the experiences that want to overtake and control us today!

Will we embrace this freedom today and live in the present He has granted us? Or will we wallow in our past? We make this choice, my friends! He has provided a clean, fresh new day. What do you choose?

Lamentations 3:23 NLT Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Help us, Lord, to forget the past, to rest in Your Grace and forgiveness, and to live in the present, in Your new mercies! And to even… look forward to what lies ahead!
