Today’s Encouragement is John 1:29 ESV The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
The Lamb of God –
The Bible is filled with literary excellence: history, wisdom, songs, hero stories, moral lessons, parables, illustrations, metaphors, and more.
A consistent symbol, metaphor, and illustration throughout the Old and New Testaments is the shepherd, sheep, and lamb.
“The Lord is my Shepherd,” Psalm 23, immediately comes to mind, and there are dozens more, too many to list.
Why Sheep?
Sheep are rather ignorant! They follow blindly but faithfully! They look Only to the shepherd for guidance and depend upon Him exclusively. Yet this analogy doesn’t stop at illustration!
In the account of the first Passover, still enslaved, the people of God are told to sacrifice a lamb, to put its blood on the doorposts of their houses, and this blood of a lamb saves them.
Jesus is The Lamb of God. His blood saves us. He died so we could be saved, made new, and given Eternal life.
He has already done everything that needs to be done for our salvation. He said, “It is Finished.” We simply believe Him, and like sheep, we follow Him and look to Him for every need, guidance, protection, strength, food, water, and shelter. In everything… we look to Him our Shepherd, the Lamb of God.
Father, Your Truth is so amazing, sometimes clear, sometimes challenging to comprehend, yet always rich in meaning, even beyond our limited human comprehension. Thank You for the Truth, for the Lamb, for all that You have provided us. Thank You.
Lamb of God
