Don’t Be Afraid

Today’s Encouragement is Revelation 1:17 NLT When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last.

Don’t Be Afraid –

John writes of his fantastic encounter with Jesus in the first chapter of Revelation. He gives the most complete and astounding description in the Bible of the resurrected Jesus in verses 12-16.  (Please stop now and slowly, thoughtfully, read Revelation 1:12-16) And John’s response? He fell at Jesus’ feet… as if he was dead.

Remember, John had been one of Jesus’ closest friends and disciples. He knew Jesus well. Yet here, years after His death and resurrection, Jesus appeared to this faithful disciple again—this time in all His Glory! His Presence was so astounding that John was overwhelmed.

And this is Jesus today!  Not a tiny, helpless baby in a manger, not a man teaching on a hillside by the sea, not a condemned man suffering on a cross, and not a body lying in a borrowed tomb!  But alive, Glorious, Indescribable, and Overwhelming!

And this wonderful, terrifying Being reaches out His hand, lays it on this mortal man, to strengthen, encourage and remove all fear… and speaks the words which all people long to hear…  Don’t Be Afraid!

Father God, Thank You for this vision of Jesus, in all His glory, Who is infinitely more awesome than can ever be described in words.   And thank you that He still tells us today, thousands of years later, “Don’t Be Afraid!“
