Today’s Encouragement is 1 John 4:8b NLT God is love.
God IS –
Isn’t it interesting how it’s stated… God IS Love. It doesn’t say, “God has love,” or “He embodies love,” or “He likes for us to love one another.” The language is translated this way intentionally. “He IS!” The very core of His Being… His Nature, His essential aspect, His character is Love!
Certainly, He is not one-dimensional. He has unlimited traits, vast and incomprehensible. And yet, we can begin to understand, to grasp at least some of the meaning of these three words… because we desire, need, crave this Love. It is our greatest need.
And that is what God IS; He provides for our greatest need. Perfect Love, Himself.
Love is so beautifully described in 1 Corinthians 13, Love is Patient, Kind, and never ends.
And in John 3:16, He So Loved the world… that He gave…
This is Love. This is God. No other love comes close; no other love will fill our need. The love of parents, family, and friends will all fail. Even romantic love, which movies and music portray as ‘the answer’… will fail to fill this need.
Only God’s Love.
Father, we desperately need to know and believe in Your Love. Help us to accept and rest in Your Perfect Love for us, confident and trusting.
