Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 69:13 ESV But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
At an acceptable time –
David was in great distress (v17) and despair (v20), and he was weary (v3) from crying out to God! He acknowledged his own sin (v5) and his own responsibility for this terrible situation. His enemies were powerful, a huge number, and they hated him (v4)!
And yet, his faith is so loudly proclaimed in this song: trusting in God, waiting for “an acceptable time,” and asking God to deliver him from this painful trial. And David’s response to this waiting? “I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving” (v30).
He sang! He sang God’s praises while still waiting for God to act!
He praised God even while in despair and worn out from asking God to rescue him. And why does he trust God to rescue him? Because of the abundance of God’s steadfast love!
Father, grant us this depth of faith, this measure of confidence in You, Your Love, and Your deliverance… in Your time, that is – at an acceptable time to You – and in Your way… Help us to trust in You for our help! Always. Your way, Your time is best!
Even When It Hurts
