Today’s Encouragement Is Hebrews 12:6 NLT For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.
The Lord Disciplines –
“Wait just a minute, I think I’ll pass! I don’t want any discipline; I’m an adult now, but thanks anyway.”
If we’re honest, there are aspects of this Christian Life, certain things in the Bible, that are, well, kinda hard to take, and these are hard to defend when people question these things.
One response to such challenges may be, “Well, you can’t believe everything in the Bible; it’s been rewritten so many times, surely it can’t still all be true.”
Well, oookkkaaayyy then… Whatcha gonna remove, discount, dismiss, or explain away? And who decides what ideas, concepts, or words need to be erased? You? Some group of scholars? Exactly who?
My friend, we believers are called to a simple faith. It is believing Jesus and His word and trusting Him for our salvation. The Bible is a tool God gives us, just as He gave Moses the two tablets. Is there some other religion that makes more sense to you? One that aligns with your own ideas of right and wrong… the way to live a life that seems right to you?
Taking some of this, some of that, ignoring those things, incorporating these… we’re pretty good at it. We can create something very comfortable.
But… There is only one Way, which has a cross and an empty tomb. Only One Way reveals a Savior who died to save us because… we cannot save ourselves!
And I would prefer the Lord’s discipline over any human discipline! How about you?
Lord, we choose to Trust You, even to accept Your instruction, correction, and, when needed, punishment. Give us strength, Father.
