Today’s Encouragement is Jonah 3:1 NLT Then the LORD spoke to Jonah a second time.
A Second Time –
So, what is encouraging about this? Well, for starters, the first time didn’t go very well. It was a terrible mess! Everyone knows about poor old Jonah’s miserable failure to respond to God’s call faithfully. The running, the hiding, the storm, the fish, the vomit! What a mess!!!
But God! He didn’t get disgusted with Jonah’s weakness, failure, and fear. He wasn’t deterred at all! He spoke to Jonah – a second time! Same message. And doing so, He inferred… “I’m not giving up on you just because you messed up the first time! I still have chosen you… You are still loved, and you will be able because… You are mine!”
My friend, God doesn’t make mistakes. He doesn’t get fed up with, or disappointed by our failures! He knows us! He remembers that we are dust! (Psalm 103:14) He is infinitely patient and forgiving!
He will call us again, a second time, and a third, and seventy-seven times…
He is not keeping score. He is patient with us! (2 Peter 3:9)
We just need to trust Him, pick ourselves up, and try again – to be faithful…
Father, we cannot thank You enough for Your grace for us. That You would continue to patiently call us to Your will… we are grateful.
