Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 143:4-5 NLT I am losing all hope; I am paralyzed with fear. I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done.
What You Have Done –
David the king, a fierce warrior, a man after God’s own heart… had his moments… just like we do. There are times when we too, are losing hope, our strength begins to fail, we are exhausted, and we have come to the end of ourselves… So, what does David, this godly man, choose to do in this situation?
The short Psalm 143 provides great wisdom in such times of despair. As in many other of his songs, David honestly assesses the reality of his situation, whether it is powerful enemies gathered around, or the spiritual enemies of darkness, sorrow, grief, or depression. He is honest, it looks bad!
Then David – remembers. He remembers God. That God is still in control. His many great works, the many times God has rescued His people, and David personally. (The Bible is filled with the great things God has done!) And then, David expresses his confidence in God’s deliverance!
At the end of his prayer-song, he speaks in faith –
Before he has seen the rescue –
In faith, he says –
But, I know, I am confident that You will deliver and save me – because You love me! (v11-12) Because I remember – What You Have Done.
Father God, help us to also have such faith in You, so that in all times, especially our darkest moments, we too can speak and sing out loud, and proclaim our confident faith in Your Love and Your deliverance from all our troubles. Because we remember…
