Today’s Encouragement is Romans 8:6 NLT So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Control Your Mind –
Once you think about it for a second, it’s not really rocket science, is it? If the sinful nature is in control, then sin is boss. We know, because God’s word teaches us the absolute truth, that when we live in sin, we earn its pay, its wages… which is death (Romans 3:23). And even according to man’s human logic (which God is not limited to) the converse would also seem logical… when His Spirit is in charge, this will lead to life and peace! This is because Jesus is Life (John 14:6) and our Peace (Acts 10:36)
But there is “rocket science” in this verse! The word “letting”. “Let” is the “Huh, what was that? Did he say ‘let’?”
Most of us immediately would agree that we don’t want to “let” our evil nature, the old man, our sinful nature… be in control of our minds! Oh sure, we’re tempted at times and too often we think, “Well… but that’s not control! That’s just a little slip-up, a little moment of weakness…” so we tell ourselves.
Well, that’s a nice and convenient thought, comforting even… But it just isn’t consistent with the Truth. Reread the verse. The connotation, implication, and unstated principle is clear.
We decide! We choose! We allow! We LET! One or the other, be in control!
Father, we need Your help to Let the Spirit control our minds. We choose to ask You for help, to ask Your Spirit to control our minds, hearts, and lives.
