Today’s Engagement is Joshua 1:9 NLT This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Be Strong –
Three times in chapter one God instructs, well, He commands Joshua to ‘Be Strong and Courageous!’ Three times!
Now, if Joshua was an innately strong guy, strong in character, in willpower, determination, and completely confident, even fearless, then why would God, or anyone be saying this? I don’t recall anyone saying to Samson, “Be strong!”
Joshua had a servant’s heart.
He was Moses’ helper, his aide. So, when Moses died, the Lord called Joshua to step up and lead His people… and Be Strong!
Most likely, He said this because… it wasn’t Joshua’s nature to be strong, fearless, confident, and full of courage!
Remember that Moses, Elijah, Saul, and Jonah, just to name a few, all tried to disqualify themselves from following God’s instruction!
God decides, He chooses, and He equips! “I will be with you wherever you go!”
When we think – “I can’t…!” “It’s too much…!” “I’ll never be able to…!” Remember God’s words of encouragement to Joshua. These same words are for us! For every believer… “The Lord Your God is WITH you wherever you go!”
Thank You, Lord, for calling, choosing, equipping, and accompanying ordinary people for Your extra-ordinary purposes! Help us understand that You provide us with Strength and Courage… and You are always with us, wherever we go! Thank You, Father!
I will be with You
