Today’s Encouragement is Matthew 22:37 NLT Jesus replied, “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”
With All –
Jesus states that this is the Greatest commandment. The most important.
Why didn’t He simply say, “You shall love the Lord your God.”
Why did He add – with all?
Why add – Heart, Soul, and Mind?
Again, why not simply with all your heart…. Or soul, or mind, why all three?
One thought is – for emphasis. He wanted to make it clear how important it is to Love God with All we are and all we have, all of our ability, all the capacity we have.
Yet another thought may be related to the complex nature of a human being. We are not merely flesh and bone. We are sentient creatures, we think (sometimes), we feel, we imagine, we create, we are limited, and yet we still have amazingly complex abilities.
“With All,” also implies exclusivity. God, and God Alone, is worthy of worship and of all the Love we can offer.
And the best news of Today’s Encouragement is… although we don’t always love God with all… The Grace of Jesus makes up for this failure just as it does for all our other shortcomings. We aren’t perfect, but our Savior IS!
Thank You Father that we can strive to truly Love You “With All” our heart, soul and mind… and for the Grace which is sufficient… whenever we fall short of Your best for us.
God and God Alone
