Control Your Mind –
Remember Saturday morning cartoons? A recurring theme was the hero having a little angel on one shoulder and a little devil on the other, both whispering in his ear. Of course, this is just a cartoon, right? Yes – But… it is a somewhat accurate analogy of the human condition! Especially for those of us who believe in Jesus.
First, understand that there are evil forces in this world. The devil appeared to Jesus in the wilderness. Our enemy is real, but he’s been defeated, by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus!
And the angel on our shoulder, is best understood as the Holy Spirit, speaking wisdom to our souls, and guiding us in the way we should go.
These two, unseen but very real, supernatural forces, are still at work today. And both are offering us ‘answers’ to the dilemmas we face. One alternative leads to life, joy, love, blessings and goodness. The other choice – all other choices – lead to sorrow, loss, and pain.
So, the question is – which one are we going to ‘let control our mind’. It seems clear that this is our choice, not our fate. We have the critical, life-changing choice to “let,” to allow either –
the Spirit of God…
or the sinful nature…
to ‘Control our minds.’
Thank You Father for the gift of the ability to choose! I choose You, Lord! Holy Spirit, take complete control of my mind. I ask in Jesus Name.
